CANES is a multidisciplinary team of experts who provide timely and expert consultation on challenging and complex child welfare assessments, investigations, and cases.

Any county department of human services or local law enforcement agency may request consultation. Purpose, timelines, and outcomes of consultation will be determined based on the desire of the requesting agency and the specific needs of each case. Consultation can be held within as little as 3 to 5 business days if necessary.

As of October 1, 2019, CANES is no longer funded through CAPTA due to a reallocation of funds by the Colorado Department of Human Services - learn more here.

Illuminate is dedicated to providing this service to those working with families in child welfare and/or law enforcement. While we are actively exploring funding opportunities to offset the costs of expert case consultation, we are happy to discuss costs on a case by case basis.

CDHS is in process of developing an MOU with CANES to allow for statewide sharing of child welfare case specific information. If you are interested in scheduling a consultation, please fill out the form below and we will contact you to discuss next steps, including timelines and cost, on a case by case basis.
